SFA-DPD has developed a state-of-the-art Tactical Water Purification System (TWPS). The TWPS incorporates advanced micro-filtration technology to filter out silt and biological materials including disease-causing microorganisms such as Cryptosporidium. It also includes advanced, high salt rejection, reverse osmosis technology to produce drinking water from the extremely salty seawater sources in the Middle East.

Operating from lakes and rivers, the 1500 TWPS produces 1500 Gallons per Hour (GPH) of potable water at any temperature. With the micro-filtration pretreatment, the TWPS is unaffected by extreme levels of turbidity (silt and dirt) encountered with some rivers and in flooding situations. Operating from normal seawater, the 1500 TWPS produces 1200 GPH of potable water at any temperature. From extremely salty seawater sources containing up to 60,000 mg/L-dissolved salts, the potable water production is reduced to 900 GPH.

The system can operate in environments up to 120°F with 100% humidity including salt fog and spray. With the winter kit deployed, it can operate at temperatures down to –25°F. All materials are highly corrosion resistant and will provide a useful life in excess of 25 years.

In addition to military use, the 1500 TWPS is an excellent system for disaster relief water supply both within the U.S. and in developing countries. The micro-filtration system has already proven its capability in disaster relief during flooding of the Red River in the Midwest several years ago. The combination of reverse osmosis and micro-filtration provided by the 1500 TWPS makes this an excellent disaster relief asset anywhere in the world.

Tactical Water Purification System (TWPS)

Description:

Fully self-contained, except for fuel, for a 100-hour mission. It includes everything needed, including a water intake system, a 6000 Gallon water storage and distribution system, and all associated pumps and hoses. These as well as consumables, tools, and crew level repair parts are all packed into the TWPS for mission deployment.

The system is deployed by a 3-soldier crew and will produce water within 2 hours of arrival at the water point location. The system is automated and only requires one crewmember to maintain normal operation.

The Marine version is contained within a skidded frame 13’ 9” long x 7’2” wide x 6’ high weighing 10,000 lb when fully packed for mission deployment.

The Army version is contained within a specially designed 8 x 8 x 20 ISO shelter compatible with the NATO Palletized Loading System (PLS) and HEMTT M1120 Load Handling System (LHS). This version includes a 60 kW Tactical Quite Generator (TQG), an additional 9000-gallon storage and distribution system, a beach well system (OISS), and a complete winter kit packed within the shelter. The total weight is 23,000 lbs.

Both versions are NBC warfare survivable and both can purify water that has been contaminated with NBC warfare agents.
